Alan has 25 years of experience as a speaker and seminar leader, creative director and consultant in fundraising. He worked in house for a national UK charity before founding his own London based agency, which he exited in 2010. He has developed our 'Great Fundraising' programme over the last decade and has worked with over 350 clients worldwide. He also supports and invests in private sector start-ups or growing companies that supply the fundraising world.
Morag is our head of consultancy in Scotland and our database and compliance expert across the group. Prior to her current consulting career, Morag was Head of Fundraising at Quarriers, where she led individual giving income from £34,000 to £1,100,000 annually (yes, that’s an increase of 3,200% … but it was effectively a start up!). Morag is also chair of the Institute of Fundraising in Scotland.
Rachel is our Head of Fundraising Focus. She organises and delivers bespoke Fundraising Focus seminars, and Fundraising Creative co-creation sessions for our clients, trains charity teams on how to develop creative that works for fundraising, and oversees all our Focus and Creative client projects.
With 20 years of experience as a professional fundraiser and fundraising consultant, both agency side and in house at charities, Rachel brings insight and learnings from her past work with over 100 charities – in the UK and overseas – across hundreds of projects.
Adrian Lorentsson is a Creative Consultant with Alan Clayton Associates. He is a former Director of Communications in the Norwegian Association for Youth Mental Health, where he also served as chair on the board of trustees. Adrian played a pivotal role in building the organisation for youth mental health from scratch. Adrian is our driving creative force in building fundraising cultures in organisations and countries who are new to fundraising. Adrian is an award-winning public speaker.
Ashley is ACA legacy specialist. After working as a legacy fundraiser for the best part of a decade, Ashley begun legacy consulting in 2014. His ambition is to see more charities realise their potential and grasp the opportunity that legacy giving has to offer. In 2015 he joined leading legacy administration consultancy Legacy Link, and now runs that alongside his specialist consulting, to help charities right through the legacy journey.
Ashley spearheads on research-based work with legacies, focusing on creating whole-organisation legacy readiness.
Our group Creative Director is Dave Sturdy. Prior to joining ACA, Dave spent 17 years as a founding director and shareholder of Bristol based agency Different Kettle and has worked on dozens of successful charity, non-profit and NGO accounts internationally. He has provided the concepts and visual execution of many of ACA’s most powerful campaigns and brands. Dave has won many advertising and marketing awards, but never loses focus on the money which changes lives; the true purpose of powerful fundraising communications.
Professor Adrian Sargeant
Adrian is Chief Executive of The Philanthropy Centre. Formerly the first Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, Adrian is passionate about achieving massive growth in philanthropy. All his work is focussed on achieving that by developing the value that donors get from their giving. He specialises in the new science of philanthropic psychology, a science that is routinely doubling the income for those charities that apply it.
Professor Jen Shang
Professor Jen Shang is a philanthropic psychologist and director of research at the Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy. She specialises in making link between academic research and professional practice, and her work increases fundraising by enhancing the donor experience. Jen is also an author of the Great Fundraising research.
Behind the Scenes
John is our Finance Director and IT expert. John manages systems and procedures across ACA. John was Finance Director at Alan's agency Cascaid, and after that set up his own IT service business.
Malene is a director of ACA and as excutive assistant, she is in charge of making it all happen. Malene set up Ingerfair consulting in Norway, and her work on the voluntary sector is published in Danish and Norwegian.
